New Minister of Education announced Leona Dombrowsky
Premier Dalton McGuinty has announced a shuffle in his cabinet yesterday. The new Minister of Education will be Leona Dombrowsky. Happily, for Clearview Collingwood and Simcoe County, the new Minister comes from the Agriculture Ministry and has a good handle on the importance of rural schools.

Upcoming Attendance Review Meeting Collingwood Dec. 15th
The next public meeting is scheduled for December 15, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the Cameron Street Public School gymnasium. The intent of this meeting is to share attendance area scenarios and receive input and feedback. Important dates and timelines regarding the attendance area review will also be reviewed.
Stayner Sun – Board pulls plug on Clearview ARC
Clearview Township’s deputy mayor, Alicia Savage, was at the meeting and ecstatic about the board’s decision to stop the ARC process.
Savage, a member of the Clearview ARC, had pushed to halt the ARC’s work until the new provincial guidelines could be incorporated into the board’s new policy.
“Caroline Smith pulled off the impossible,” Savage said. “We are truly fortunate to have her in our community. She really gets it and she really cares.”
The deputy mayor also praised members of the ARC, including co-chair Stephanie Davenport, for pressing to use the new guidelines and trustees who took the request to heart.
In a telephone interview Thursday, Smith said she was amazed by what happened the night before.
She praised members of the now disbanded ARC for pushing the board on the issue of the provincial guidelines.
Upcoming Meeting – ARC Policy Review
The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking public input on the accommodation review process and is holding a public meeting at Stayner Collegiate Institute on Tues., Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. New policy guidelines released by the Ministry of Education in June require all school boards to be in compliance by March 31, 2010.
