The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) has started the process of developing the membership list for the 2010-11 Accommodation Review Committees for Clearview Twp. Elementary schools and Barrie Secondary Schools. Information on the process for nomination of members was sent out to schools. school councils, municipal councils and local news outlets this past week.
Parent memberships on the ARC’s is crucial to open and clear recommendations dealing with schools and capacity issues being developed to the Board in the first quarter of 2011. ARC meetings will be started in September 2010.
SCDSB Notice quote:A pupil accommodation review provides the public with an opportunity to make informed recommendations to the Board regarding the current challenges of enrolment, programming, and building condition for a group of schools. The pupil accommodation review is conducted by an Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) whose membership includes parents/guardians, students, and community representatives as well as representatives from the SCDSB.The SCDSB is currently looking for parents who are interested in participating as a member of an ARC for the schools identified above. Parents on the ARC must be the parent/guardian of a student who attends the school and who lives in the attendance area of the school.The ARC will start meeting in September 2010 and the process may last for several months. Members will be asked to participate in many working sessions and in at least four public meetings. These meetings and working sessions may be scheduled in both the afternoon and evening and may be held at any of the schools in an accommodation review area.School councils will select parent/guardian members by ballot; therefore, parents may be asked to make a brief presentation to the school council.Parents interested in becoming a member of an ARC may obtain application forms from their local public school principal.
