Collingwood & Area – College Funding Annoucement

Great News out of Ottawa ..

Collingwood, Ontario — Hon. Helena Guergis, MP for Simcoe-Grey, today announced that Georgian College  will receive an investment of $4million for a new Collingwood Campus through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).

Brian Tamblyn, President and CEO of Georgian College stated that :  “This investment in a new, permanent home for Georgian College serving Collingwood, Wasaga Beach, Clearview Township, Meaford and Town of the Blue Mountains, will go far in helping to address short and long-term economic needs of the entire area. A new consolidated campus will allow Georgian to continue to expand its enrollment by as much as 20 per cent annually.

We look forward to announcing the location of Georgian College’s new Collingwood Campus later this month.”

All those who worked on this project should be congratulated.   Mayor Chris Carrier and Collingwood council were key in the blueprint of this funding.  This is a wonderful announcement.  Carrier and the team should be proud of bringing much needed post-secondary opportunity to Collingwood, Clearview Twp. and area.

It is so important that the partnerships between the secondary schools and the college are now encouraged.  This new educational opportunity will have an immense impact on the prosperity of the entire area over the next decade.
