Barrie Examiner - Overview Article of effects of revisions to ARC policy ( April 1, 2010)

ARCs are struck when different factors — such as changing demographic patterns, enrolment changes, facility conditions, partnership opportunities and Ministry of Education guidelines — affect the board’s ability to operate schools and support students’ learning. When the Barrie secondary school ARC process gets underway in September, there will be some changes.

There will still be two parent/ guardian representatives on the ARC as before.

“Parents and guardians are key members of our school communities and the policy requires that schools in an ARC each be represented by two representatives from this group as voting members,” board spokesperson Debbie Clarke said.

And there will still be one student appointed to the ARC as a voting member, when a secondary school is under review.

But where there used to be two community representatives — a municipal representative and a business representative — there will now only be one community representative appointed by the local municipal council.

SIMCOE COUNTY -Fewer municipal politicians and community reps. Ideal targets for school size. And detailed, tighter timelines for meetings and decisions.

Those are the key features in the Simcoe County District School Board’s revised Accommodation Review Committee Policy – a policy that will shape the discussion on the future of Barrie’s high schools this fall.
