School boards finding potential partners to build and share infrastructure, is a key piece in the process of refurbishing, maintaining and building new secondary schools.
In February 2010, the Ontario Ministry of Education issued the Facility Partnership Guidelines. These guidelines require school boards to actively go forward to pursue new connections. An example within the Simcoe County District School Board, of this type of partnership, is the the New Essa Secondary School. In Fall 2010 it will open with an estimated population of 725 (capacity 903) and include within the school site an OPP detachment and a new municipal library. Clearly there are wins for all the partners, but most importantly the students, who will have access to a secondary school within the Angus area.
Following in this direction the SCDSB has announced a Facility Partnership Symposium for April 19, 2010. Invited are all organizations who may be interested in potential partnerships. The public notice can be found here. I encourage you to share the meeting information and encourage attendance; one never knows where solutions will be found.
