Premier Dalton McGuinty has announced a shuffle in his cabinet yesterday. The new Minister of Education will be Leona Dombrowsky. Happily, for Clearview Collingwood and Simcoe County, the new Minister comes from the Agriculture Ministry and has a good handle on the importance of rural schools.
Dombrowsky was first elected to the Ontario legislature in 1999 and re-elected in 2003 and 2007. She was appointed Minister of Education in 2010. She previously served as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and as Minister of the Environment.
As Minister of Agriculture, Dombrowsky supported the commercialization of biomass products and created new opportunities in Ontario’s agriculture sector. She has fought to protect supply management at the World Trade Organization (WTO) and was the first Ontario agriculture minister to attend WTO talks.
